Introduction
After years of investment and development addressing the problem of urban waste, Winner introduced municipal solid waste sorting equipment and complete production lines that have successfully resolved waste treatment difficulties in a number of cities.
Municipal solid waste has a complex composition, consisting mainly of organics, inorganics, waste paper, plastic bags, textiles, plastics, glass and metals. For a long time waste has been handled by landfill, incineration or composting, but experience shows that no single method solves the problem well, and the environmental pollution each creates cannot be ignored. Handling municipal solid waste properly requires an integrated model combining sorting, incineration, composting and landfill, delivered through a comprehensive treatment plant that meets environmental requirements while achieving harmless, reduced-volume and resource-recovering waste treatment through recovery, conversion and reuse.
Process Flow
Screening and sorting is the first step in any downstream treatment. Making good use of the valuable fractions in waste depends first on cleanly separating organics, combustibles, metals and plastics. Based on the characteristics of each waste component and on practical experience, Winner developed the municipal solid waste sorting line, which works broadly as follows:

- Incoming waste is first tipped onto the unloading platform and moved by loader onto the apron conveyor, then carried by belt conveyor to the manual sorting platform, where sorters pick out bulky items and hazardous waste.
- After manual sorting, the waste passes into the bag opener, which tears open bagged waste for downstream processing.
- The debagged waste is conveyed to the trommel screen, which extracts the organic fraction; a suspended magnetic separator then removes ferrous material from the organics.
- The trommel oversize is passed through magnetic separation to remove ferrous material, then fed to the combined air separator, which separates heavy fractions such as brick and stone from rubber, plastics, film, paper and other combustibles.
- Depending on customer requirements, manual sorting, flotation, washing, colour sorting and eddy current separation can be added to achieve full separation of the different materials in the waste.
Project Case — Hebei Municipal Solid Waste Treatment Site
The sorting system supplied for this project separates waste according to the characteristics of each material, producing clean sorted fractions with low impurity content and delivering the three principles of harmless, reduced-volume and resource-recovering waste treatment. While securing the social and environmental benefits of the project, it pursues resource recovery, bringing sustainable economic development and environmental protection into alignment.
The project separates five main categories in a single pass: soil and residue, solids, waste plastics, residual organics and ferrous products. The equipment employs technology that is advanced by current domestic standards, offering high reliability, operability, maintainability and scalability. The automatic municipal solid waste sorting system suits a wide range of treatment schemes, including sanitary landfill and treatment processes, transfer station pre-treatment, incineration pre-treatment and composting, and it reduces both the volume in circulation and the quantity held in storage. National and local laws, regulations and standards are strictly observed to keep pollution to a minimum. At the same time the system rethinks sorting technology at the level of principle, resolving the long-standing difficulty of waste separation. Every category separated by the project is returned to productive use, in line with resource recovery and the development of a circular economy.
